BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Jourdin Crawford, a defensive lineman on Auburn University’s football team, started giving even before he had everything.
A 2025 Parker High School graduate, he had already developed an interest in serving others. His initial efforts of donating books and meals to people downtown have now evolved into The Greedy House, a nonprofit organization based in Birmingham’s Titusville neighborhood that serves the community.
Jourdin’s mother, Patsy Crawford, who is also the executive director of The Greedy House, shared that her son started giving back to the community around his 11th-grade year. They began with small projects such as donating a few books here and there, feeding people downtown, and eventually, it grew into something more significant.
The Crawfords’ desire to serve stemmed from a straightforward cause: They watched.
They helped C.J. Donnell Middle School in Fairfield establish an essentials room to provide students with food, clothing, hygiene products, and school supplies. However, the school soon realized that parents also needed assistance.

The school’s security policies restricted adults’ movement in and out of the building, so the family started looking for a place where everyone could come and go freely.
“We chose to do The Greedy House in Birmingham because this is where he went to high school. It’s open to everyone, regardless of age or location, and offers assistance to those who need it,” said Patsy Crawford. That sentence captures the heart of the organization. No complicated pitch. No judgment.
The Greedy House offers breakfast for children on their way to school. They can also complete homework, finish assignments or purchase hygiene products and school supplies before heading off to class.
The organization provides free groceries to families facing food insecurity every Wednesday. Patsy is thrilled about their recent partnership with the Food Bank of Central Alabama, which she believes will significantly expand their impact on the community.
“I’m really excited about that because that expands what we’re able to do by a lot,” she said.

The organization said their biggest need is food service, followed closely by hygiene products. The process is streamlined and respectful for those in need.
“You come in, we scan your code, we provide you with what you need, and then you can leave,” Patsy Crawford explained.
Jourdin’s generous donation of a portion of his name, image, and likeness (NIL) income has helped to keep The Greedy House running. In addition to this support, the organization is also backed by local businesses and community organizations who provide resources and assistance where needed.
The Greedy House is New in the Neighborhood, but its mission was established long ago: To identify needs and provide assistance with available resources.
