BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Marvel Studios released a new special look at the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Saturday, giving fans a glimpse at the backstory of Robert Downey, Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
The second trailer for the new Avengers title begins with Victor von Doom sitting alone on a throne as the Fantastic Four’s Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) tells more about the villain.
“Victor was always the smartest guy in every room,” the woman says. “He used to be different. He used to be kind, he used to be caring. And then everything he loved was taken from him.”
The trailer shifts to Doom looking up at a painting of a young boy and an older woman.
“I knew that he was lost,” she says. “But, I did not realize that he was broken.”

Downey’s return to the MCU marks a dramatic change from his previous role as Tony Stark/Iron Man, this time bringing to life one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.
But, he will not be the only actor returning to the big screen.
Saturday’s special look includes new shots of X-Men characters from the earlier FOX films, such as Magneto (Ian McKellen), Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Cyclops (James Marsden). Gambit, played by Channing Tatum, also appears in the trailer after debuting in Deadpool & Wolverine. Moreso, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is also set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
The new trailer also shows off new looks at returning characters such as Thor, Black Panther, Shang-Chi and the Fantastic Four, including Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) confronting Dr. Doom with a level of familiarity.
“Victor, did you do this?” Richards asks, further hinting at the connection between Marvel’s First Family and Doom.

The special look, which lasts just over two minutes, ends with a demonstration of Doom’s immense power, stopping Thor’s axe mid-swing before flinging it like a toy.
“Hell answers to me,” Doom tells the OG Avenger, before raising an army of Sentinels behind him.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to premiere in theaters Friday, Dec. 18.
