CULLMAN, Ala. (WBRC) - City and WildWater Cullman leaders came together Tuesday for a ribbon cutting at the water park’s newest attraction, the Paradise Lazy River.
The 1,000-foot lazy river is among the longest in the Southeast, according to an announcement released Tuesday. It adds 400,000 gallons of water, 17,725 square feet of attraction space and room for 1,000 additional guests at WildWater Cullman.
Michael Schwitek, the WildWater General Manager, said guests finally get to experience the lazy river after watching the new attraction take shape all season.
“The Paradise Lazy River gives families and groups a whole new way to relax and spend the day with us with more seating, more shade and more space than ever before,” Schwitek said.
The expansion adds more than 400 new lounge chairs, 30 new tables, 15 new cabanas and 15 new giant umbrellas.

In addition to giving space for 600 people to enjoy the lazy river with an additional 400 on the deck, the new expansion also includes The Sandbar, a bar and grill located along the river.
Officials said the opening of the new space marks the completion of the largest single expansion in the park’s history.
Nathan Anderson, the Executive Director at Cullman Parks, Recreation, and Sports Tourism, said the expansion is an investment in Cullman itself.
“The OmniSports District exists to give our residents and visitors world-class recreation close to home, and the Paradise Lazy River raises that bar,” Anderson said. “With more than 1.2 million visitors coming through this district each year, projects like this one continue to strengthen our local economy and our quality of life.”
After being open Aug. 4 and 5, WildWater Cullman will shift to a weekend-only schedule through the end of the season on Sept. 7.
