HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WBRC) - A new wellness spot opened in Homewood, and it’s built for people who want results and real-life convenience.

Project Lean Nation calls itself a tech-driven wellness company focused on personalized nutrition, expert coaching and meals designed to match your goals, not guess them.

From the moment you walk in, the process starts with data. The first step is an InBody scan, a body composition tool that goes beyond the scale to measure things like muscle, body fat and more. After that, you sit down one-on-one with a coach to review your results and talk through what you’re trying to achieve; whether that’s losing weight, building muscle, or simply feeling better day to day.

The idea is simple: understand where you’re starting, then build a plan you can actually stick with. Coaches help break down the scan results, identify areas to improve, and create a customized approach based on your lifestyle and preferences, so it’s sustainable, not extreme.

And the food? That’s where Project Lean Nation leans into flexibility.

Entrepreneur Forrest Walden, who’s behind the Homewood location, said the meals are designed to match different needs without making things complicated.

“Just different portion sizes,” Walden explained. “They’re actually the same food.”

Walden gave an example using two versions of the same concept: “This is 450 calories, 35g of protein. This is about 700 calories, 60g of protein,” he said, pointing out that the difference comes down to serving size and what someone is trying to do with their nutrition.

That “why” matters, Walden says, and it’s the reason they start with the consultation and scan.

“Ultimately… what are your goals?… We got to figure out that first before we make a recommendation,” he said.

Project Lean Nation’s chef-prepared meals are made with whole, nutrient-rich ingredients and portioned to support specific goals. The company says its chefs work alongside a dietitian to create meals that are both flavorful and functional, built to help the body perform at its best.

But the business isn’t limited to memberships or meal plans.

“A lot of people think you have to be on our membership… but if you just want to come in and get a grab-and-go meal, you’ll simply grab one of our menus… put a check mark by the ones you want. We’ll go in the freezer and pull it," Walden explained.

Some customers even heat meals up and eat on-site.

“You could literally heat it up right here and sit and eat… We have people do that,” he said.

The meals are designed for speed, too. Walden said they can go from frozen to ready fast: “They’re all built to go from fully frozen to fully heated in 15 minutes or less, seven minutes in the microwave.”

Beyond meals, Project Lean Nation also features a full protein shake bar, plus snacks and supplements, aimed at helping people stay consistent without feeling boxed into one rigid program.

As Walden put it, “Anybody can put a box of food on your step… but no one’s actually helping you understand how does that fit into your plan… So we come right alongside you and we do all that.”

Walden says this Homewood spot is just the start.

“We’re going to do several here in Birmingham,” he said. “This is number one.”
