Nintendo to raise price of Switch 2 console beginning in September

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Nintendo Switch 2 will soon cost gamers more if they want to get their hands on the latest offering from the Japanese-based gaming company.

Nintendo is raising prices in phases, first in Japan before hitting other regions later in the year.

US consumers will see the Switch 2 go from $449.99 to $499.99 beginning Sept. 1. Similar price increases will hit Canada and Europe on the same day.

The price of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service is increasing in Japan, but the company did not specify if that, too, would make it’s way across the Pacific.

Back in February, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa wouldn’t rule out a price hike at that time, saying at the time that the company would “carefully assess market trends and respond.”

The rise in prices across the board has been driven in large part due to the skyrocketing costs associated with memory, attributed to the rise of artificial intelligence and data centers.

In March, Sony announced a similar price increase of the PS5.
