BRIERFIELD, Ala. (WBRC) - If your Pinterest board is basically “historic charm + outdoors + main character photos,” there’s a new place near Montevallo you’ll want to see.

Montebrier Estate is a newly restored wedding and events venue set around an 1866 historic home on 13 acres in Brierfield, tucked between a private lake and the slow, scenic flow of Mahan Creek.

This isn’t just a pretty property — it’s one with a history.

The home was built in 1866 by John Mallett, a former University of Alabama professor who later worked as Superintendent of Confederate Ordnance Laboratories and agreed to help run the Brierfield Ironworks nearby.

Decades later, during the 1920s, the estate became a Prohibition-era speakeasy known as the Montebrier Club, complete with an expansive square dance floor.

Now, the current owners are restoring the property with the goal of bringing it back to what it was always meant to be: a gathering place for big moments.

One of the first things guests notice is the long porch overlooking Mahan Creek — the kind of spot where people naturally drift, sit, talk and stay awhile.

Inside, the details lean all the way into “historic, but make it wow”, including:

  • 20-foot ceilings in the parlor
  • Custom pecky cypress bookshelves
  • A Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ installed in 1919 (yes, really)
  • Heart pine doors, including tall folding doors that can open to expand the parlor
  • A stained-glass piece dating to 1880, built into a sideboard between the dining area and entrance hall
  • An 1880 ceiling light fixture purchased at an auction in Thorsby
  • A hidden closet lined with Pacific cloth designed to keep silver from tarnishing

And about that pipe organ: the pipes are hidden behind the bookshelves and accessible through a closet. If you don’t play, don’t worry — it can also be run from a computer.

Hosting an outdoor wedding here? That’s the point.
