Moth art exhibit brings science and creativity together at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A new exhibit at UAB is inviting visitors to experience moths in a fresh way — blending art and science.

The show, Blue Moon Cocoon, features imagery of luna moths and explores ideas about nature, light and transformation. Artist Virginia L. Montgomery hand-raises moths in her studio, using them as inspiration for the work.

At UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (AEIVA), organizers say the goal is to help visitors see science and creativity as connected. Hands-on Science Night events and activities let families engage with the ideas behind the art.

The collaboration with the Birmingham Zoo highlights how nature can inspire learning in new ways.

AEIVA is open from noon until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free and open to the public.
