City Club closing WBRC M-F Good Day Alabama 730a-8a (WBRC)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham residents will be saying goodbye to a nearly 40-year-old social club this year.

According to officials with City Club Birmingham, the club will be closing its doors effective, Feb. 25.

“In 1962, the residents of Birmingham, Alabama, were given a gift that continues to benefit the city almost six decades later. What’s more, City Club Birmingham has only gotten better with age,” reads the club’s website.

Relay House became the Summit Club, which opened in 1989 at 1901 6th Avenue North. The Summit Club then became City Club Birmingham in 2016.

“Since 1989 City Club Birmingham has offered a tremendous opportunity for Members to form relationships and forge partnerships that endure long after an initial meeting or social event at the Club – and which ultimately serve the entire Birmingham community,” reads City Club Birmingham’s website.

City Club Birmingham officials shared the following statement with WBRC:

“After 36 years, Invited has made the difficult decision to conclude management of City Club Birmingham effective February 25, 2026, following the termination of our lease, a decision reflecting post-Covid operational challenges. We are proud of the Club’s legacy and grateful to our members who built a strong community over the decades. The building’s ownership group plans to bring in a new operating partner and will share future membership opportunities.”
