OXFORD, Ala. (WBRC) - While owning a boutique was never in the family’s plans, a former chicken farmer is enjoying where life has taken her.
Before Paula Adams and her family owned Grace and Gray Boutique, they were commercial poultry farmers in Wadley. When that flew the coop, it was time for something new.
Adams said the way the boutique started was God-ordained in her eyes.
“We were looking for our next adventure in life and this one fell in our laps,” Adams said, adding how quickly they found and bought an existing store. “And so, we made the phone calls and stepped through the doors and within a couple of weeks, we were signing papers.”
When it came time to think of a name for their new business, she didn’t have to look any further than her own family tree.

Adams, who has eight grandchildren, used the middle names of two of her granddaughters to name the store.
Since opening right next to the Oxford High School football stadium just over four months ago, she has turned something she enjoys into a successful business.
“I enjoy picking out styles for women, whether they’re my age or older or younger, my daughter’s age,” Adams said. “I hope to have an array of fashion for women that is modest and still affordable.”
Grace and Gray Boutique brags about having the latest trends with a modest flare, with some items proving difficult to keep in stock.
“This blue jean dress I have on, I have just reordered it a third time,” she said, showing off some of the selection available. “I can’t keep it on the racks.”

In addition to the physical store, shoppers can find Grace and Gray Boutique online at graceandgrayboutique.com and they will be hitting the road for fall festivals in Roanoke on Oct. 25 and in Lineville on Nov. 1.
