BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - National Dog Month is celebrated each year in August offering a month-long celebration of dogs. This August, WBRC 6 News is On Your Side highlighting 8 nonprofits in Alabama who are on a mission to help and save dogs in our area.

Underdog Rescue of Alabama

Since 2015, Underdog rescue has been focusing on their mission to help Alabama’s Underdogs find forever homes. Pulling pets from euthanasia lists in rural humane societies and giving them a second chance, Underdog Rescue has found forever homes for over 260 pets in their 10 years of service. Two by Two Rescue

Focusing on rescuing the stray population since 2005, Two by Two rescue’s mission is to save as many lives of unwanted, abused, or abandoned animals as possible. In 2024 alone, Two by Two rescued 435 animals, found forever homes for 413, and returned 43 animals to their owners. Learn more and support their vision by tapping here.

Full Circle Rescue and Sanctuary

Full Circle is a rescue sanctuary dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of animals in need. Recently, they were awarded a grant to continue their support of senior animals in need but also rely on donation as the backbone of their rescue. Another Chance Dog Rescue

Founded in 2015, Another Chance Dog Rescue has spent the last 10 years working to improve the welfare of animals. All The Dogs

This animal welfare agency in Shelby County focuses on rescuing priority dogs, dogs who are at risk of euthanasia, from overcrowded shelters. Thanks to a dedicated team of foster families, All The Dogs offers animals time to decompress and heal while the team searching to find their forever home through social media. Sugarbelle Foundation

The Sugarbelle Foundation is a non-traditional rescue group that was established in 2013. Witnessing pets being surrendered to overcrowded shelters when owners fell on hard times triggered the basis for this meaningful work. Stepping up to provide food, medical funds, and other necessities on a case-by-case basis to families in need ensuring they can provide a stable home for their four-legged family members. The Animal League of Birmingham

The Animal League of Birmingham raises funds for non-profit animal rescue and shelters while focusing on supporting the health, welfare, and general well-being of animals in need. Dixie Girl Dog Rescue

Dixie Girl Dog Rescue’s mission is to provide every pet with a safe and loving home regardless of age or breed. In addition to rescuing animals, their secondary focus is to raise awareness for animal overpopulation. Each animal at Dixie Girl rescue is completely vetted, including examinations, vaccines, spaying or neutering, and microchipping.
