BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Red Mountain Theatre’s production of Disney’s Frozen is premiering Friday night. The production is one of the theater’s unique experiences with gaining rights to create an original production of the film.
WBRC’s Destiny McKeiver was one of few people who were able to get a behind the scenes peek at the process of putting a show of this magnitude on at the Red Mountain Theatre.
“It’s the biggest production Red Mountain Theatre has ever done in its history,” said Roy Lightner, the director of the show.

Lightner says it takes a team of 50 individuals each night to out on the production. The team auditioned over 500 people to be a part of the cast.
“We have two young Elsa and Annas that are double casted…so they sort of rotate throughout the week. There are some swings and leads and our ensemble and all 31 come together to create this show,” said Lightner.

The crew you won’t see is the behind-the-scenes crew for building the set, producing the music, fixing the lighting and creating costumes.

“We had to create everything uniquely for this theater and this production. These costumes behind me, like the Elsa dress…the ice dress, we created here… our costumers built it and designed it. This is the queen’s dress, the purple one which was also created and designed,” said Lightner.
The story of Disney’s Frozen is one of triumph in love and relationships between sisters. Lightner believes the story has the potential to bring people from all walks of life closer together.
“Our world is sort of pulled apart right now and this is a show about coming together and seeing beauty and love all wrapped in fun and excitement and incredible music and great dancing and it’s about two hours to sort of escape the realities you are living in to come sit down and laugh and have fun and listen to incredible music,” he said.
“This show was built by Birmingham for Birmingham…which is very exciting,” said Lightner.
