Space Mountain celebrates 50 years at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (WBRC) - Thrill seekers at Walt Disney World have been blasting through the cosmos for decades, igniting the imagination for young and old alike.

Space Mountain in Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park celebrates its 50th anniversary Wednesday and the park is set to celebrate.

Throughout the night of January 15, the exterior of Space Mountain will bathed in a golden glow visible throughout the Magic Kingdom.

Blasting off from Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park, Space Mountain goes gold for the 50th anniversary of this rip-roaring roller-coaster ride in the dark. Mickey Mouse and the Gang along with Astronaut Donald Duck join Walt Disney World Ambassadors Shannon Smith-Conrad and Serena Arvizu in celebration of 50 years of launching unforgettable memories on this out-of-this-world attraction at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Space Mountain was opened in 1975 and remains the oldest operating roller coaster in the state of Florida.
