Since Woodlawn Cycle Cafe closed earlier this year, the owner has set his sights on bringing a new kind of store to the West Homewood neighborhood.
Evolving West Homewood
A neighborhood wine shop, market and takeaway cafe called Buka will be opening in the newly renovated 186 building this December.
Armand Margjeka and his team want to create a market where household staples such as fresh meats, cheese, bread, small home goods and a selection of wines will be sold. The cafe menu will be focused on items made with seasonal produce.
Renovated 186 Building
Buka will be located at 186 Oxmoor Road in two suites of the renovated 186 Building. The two-story 186 building originally served as a self-service car wash in the 1970s.
Adam Thrower of Ignite Properties acquired the building and renovated it with the help of Murray Building Co., Fravert Services rebuilding the sign, and an incredible mural on the side of the building painted by Marcus Fetch.

Woodlawn Cycle Cafe’s legacy
The closing of Woodlawn Cycle Cafe due to the coronavirus pandemic signaled the end of one chapter and the beginning of another one. Buka will take the house-made spreads, wine selection, cafe dishes and products from vendors that made Woodlawn Cycle Cafe so popular and serve them up in a new concept and a new location.
