West AL Food & Wine Festival
The West Alabama Food & Wine Festival (WAFWF) committee has canceled the 2020 festival out of concern for the safety of all involved and with respect to the local restaurants that are struggling with restrictions due to COVID-19. WAFWF sponsors including Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Nucor Steel, BF Goodrich and Bryant Bank have opted instead to donate the funds directly to American Red Cross’s West Alabama Chapter (ARCWAC), the festival beneficiary, for a total contribution of $11,000. Individual ticket holders will have the option to do the same.
Originally scheduled for April 9, then rescheduled for May 21, the WAFWF has now been cancelled for 2020 because of crowd restrictions and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 date is scheduled for April 8, 2021 at Tuscaloosa River Market.
This is the first time the WAFWF has been cancelled. Since 2012 the festival has grown and increased its gift to ARCWAC. Last year’s donation totaled $18,689.40.
